Acrylic vs Clear vs Opaque taskbar modes
Compare appearance, supported Windows versions and troubleshooting steps.
Clear taskbar mode
Clear is a transparent or lightly tinted taskbar style that emphasizes the desktop wallpaper. It works well with low-contrast backgrounds and small sets of taskbar icons.
Acrylic taskbar mode
Acrylic introduces a frosted, blended look modeled on Microsoft Fluent Design. It can be better suited to detailed wallpapers because text and taskbar icons have a more consistent backdrop.
Opaque and Normal modes
Opaque uses a colored solid background and helps when maximum readability matters. Normal lets Windows manage the taskbar as usual; it is a good baseline for diagnosing conflicts with other customization tools.
What about Blur on Windows 11?
Blur is supported only on Windows 10 and Windows 11 build 22000 according to the project. Do not assume newer Windows 11 builds offer the same blur effect. If it is unavailable, try Acrylic instead.
Choosing a mode with dynamic states
For a distraction-free desktop, start with Clear and switch maximized windows to Acrylic or Opaque. Evaluate each state separately rather than setting many rules at once.
Practical checklist before changing taskbar settings
Check your Windows build using winver, record the current taskbar appearance, and verify the downloaded release is intended for your system. Change only one taskbar state at a time. After each change, open Start, maximize a window and check text readability against your wallpaper. If something looks wrong, choose Normal and exit the app before attempting further modifications.
On computers managed by an organization, ask your administrator before changing taskbar or Windows startup settings. Downloading software from an unfamiliar mirror is not a substitute for checking the source, authenticity and file contents.
